Practical Driving Test Assessment

Not sure whether you are ready for your practical driving test?

A test-readiness session provides an independent, professional assessment of your current driving standard, along with clear advice about what you need to improve before taking your test.

I am based in Princes Risborough and regularly provide driving instruction across the surrounding area. Independent driving test readiness assessments are available to learners across my usual teaching area, subject to availability.

I also cover learners from Princes Risborough, Thame, Haddenham, Chinnor, Prestwood, Lacey Green, Hughenden, Wendover and Longwick, subject to availability.

If you have a practical test booked and would like an independent view of your readiness, get in touch with your test date and availability to discuss an assessment. This assessment does not automatically include test-day car hire.

Honest, Independent Feedback

It can be difficult to judge your own test readiness, particularly if most of your experience has come from private practice. Friends and relatives can provide valuable experience, but they may not be familiar with the current standard expected during a DVSA practical driving test.

As a fully qualified DVSA Approved Driving Instructor, I will give you a calm, fair and realistic assessment. If you are ready, I will tell you. If more practice is needed, I will explain why and identify the areas that should be addressed.

Who Is It For?

A readiness session can be particularly useful if you:

  • Have learned mainly through private practice with friends or relatives
  • Have been let down or dropped by your previous instructor
  • Have recently changed instructors
  • Have booked your test but aren’t sure you are ready
  • Want an independent second opinion
  • Have previously failed and want to identify what went wrong and what needs improving
  • Want professional feedback without committing to a full course of lessons

What will be assessed?

You should already possess and will be assessed against the skills and standards expected during the UK practical driving test, in line with the standards set out on the ‘Ready to Pass’ website.

  • Legal responsibilities
  • Safety checks
  • Cockpit checks
  • Vehicle security
  • Controls
  • Moving away and stopping
  • Positioning
  • Mirrors
  • Signals
  • Anticipation and planning
  • Use of speed
  • Other road users
  • Eco-safe driving
  • Junctions
  • Roundabouts
  • Pedestrian crossings
  • Reversing
  • Turning the vehicle around
  • Parking
  • Emergency stop
  • Country roads
  • Dual carriageways
  • Motorways
  • Driving in the dark
  • Weather conditions
  • Passengers and loads
  • Independent driving and using a sat nav

You will receive clear, constructive feedback throughout the session, including what you are doing well, where faults or risks are developing and what you should practise before taking your test.

The aim is not simply to drive around a familiar test route. It is to establish whether you can drive safely, confidently and independently in realistic road and traffic conditions.
